Make Your Weeds Work for You!
Saturday January 21st from 10 to 11 am.
Annie's Garden Store
515 Sunderland RD, Amherst
We spend a lot of time dealing with the weeds in our garden. Mulching, hoeing and of course weeding to keep them under control and away from our other more intentional garden plants, herbs and perennials. But what would happen if you knew that many of the weeds that you work so hard to keep out are important and powerful medicines. Dandelion, yellow dock, burdock, purslane, lambs quarters, plantain, ground ivy and galinsoga (just to name a few) are all great foods and medicines. Learn how to transform your relationship with the weeds in your garden, how to appreciate them and give them a use as you do your peppers and tomatoes and how to turn them into delicious foods and powerful healing medicines.

Foundations of Herbal Medicine
This year, instead of offering an advanced course of study, I will be offering a more in depth and advanced version of my introductory course. This class will meet for 14 classes over 7 months and include all of the topics and content covered in The Art of Home Herbalism, in addition to more in depth and detailed materia medica development, medicine making techniques, herbal energetics, herbal formulation, constituents of medicinal plants, and anatomy and physiology of the body. Emphasis will be placed on practice and study outside of class time and each student will complete a project relevant to their herbal passions. If you at any point plan to take your knowledge of herbal medicine outside of the home or wish to apply your skills in a community setting (or are just a real herb/plant lover!) this course is a good fit for you. It will be your most important first step toward building a strong, healthy foundation for study and practice to come.
Because this course will meet over the entire growing season there will be a greater emphasis on plant identification during the different seasons of the year, as well as in depth coverage of herbs and foods for seasonal wellness.
7 month Apprenticeship: 2 Mondays/month 9:30 – 3:30 pm, April through October.
Classes include potluck lunches and herbs for medicine making!
